The Golden Steam Engine is a character who only appears in the book Thomas and the Beanstalk.
Biography
Thomas first mentioned the Golden Steam Engine whilst telling the other engines the story of "Jack and the Beanstalk". When Thomas crashes and dreams he is in the story, he meets the Golden Steam Engine, who is being held prisoner by the Giant and Diesel 10. During their escape, the Golden Steam Engine gives Thomas some of her golden coal. The two engines successfully make it back to Sodor.
Technical Details
Basis
The Golden Steam Engine is based on a Pennsylvania Railroad class A3, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona Shops from 1895 until 1905. The A3s were retired by the 1920s and all were scrapped.
The Golden Steam Engine has received some slight modifications. Unlike her basis' original form, she has been modified into the form of a tank engine, having been given a cab of the same design as Billy and Charlie's and given buffers and screwlink couplings. She is also shorter than her basis.

The golden engine is painted entirely in gold.

- The Golden Steam Engine fills the role of the Golden Harp from the original "Jack and the Beanstalk" story.
- Her face appears to be a modified version of Emily's with added makeup. Her cab is reused from Charlie.
- In some illustrations she has eyelashes in some she dosen't
- The Golden Steam Engine has many similarities to Lady:
- Both are female.
- Both are magical, 0-4-0 tank engines.
- Both have some relation to gold and have gold coloured smokeboxes.
- Both were part of a chase involving Thomas and Diesel 10.
- Much like Lady in Calling All Engines!, the Golden Steam Engine exists within Thomas' dreams.
- Both have links to the USA, Lady having been stored there by Burnett Stone and the Golden Steam Engine's basis being built there.
