The learning segments, also known as Learn with Thomas, are small educational videos which usually appeared between episodes on eighth to twelfth series DVDs and in Nick Jr. and PBS Kids half-hour television airings and — to a lesser extent — select prints of select thirteenth series half-hour television airings. Many segments feature animation by id3tv, while others use live-action footage filmed with live moving models. They were written by Paul Larson, Ross Hastings, Marc Seal and Sharon Miller. The animated segments were made on a Windows XP workstation running Autodesk 3DS Max.
