The Giant Engine is a magazine story.
Plot
One morning, Thomas rolls out of his shed and gradually begins making steam. Daisy is nearby and tells Thomas to mind his smoke as it'll ruin her paint. Thomas thinks Daisy is being very fussy. Daisy is even rude to Gordon, and James about their smoke but James' driver tries to tell her that The Fat Controller always makes sure the steam engines blow clean smoke.
As Daisy makes her way down the line, she appricates that people waving to her like "smokeless engines". Suddenly, Daisy spies a thick amount of smoke in the air. She believes it is coming from a giant steam engine hiding among the bushes and goes to tell The Fat Controller.
The Fat Controller travels with Daisy to see the smoke. It is discovered that the smoke is coming from a factory's chimney. The Fat Controller speaks to the factory manager and offers to bring fresh coal for him so the smoke is not as dirty. The other engines tease Daisy for thinking it was a giant engine but the factory manager is glad she had pointed out the dirty smoke regardless.
