The Lighthouse Engine! is a magazine story.
Plot
Donald and Douglas typically work together but, late one rainy night, Donald is alone collecting goods. Donald travels along a coastal branch line, which he has never been down before. Suddenly, Donald sees a mysterious light flashing in the sky. The rain makes it hard to see the source of the light so Donald comes to the conclusion that it must be a ghost light! Donald rushes away to get his goods delivered and be free from the light.
When Donald finally reaches the sheds, he whispers to his sleeping twin. Douglas wakes up and Donald explains what he saw. Next morning, the rain has cleared and the sun shines brightly. Donald begins to wonder if the light was real. The Fat Controller then sends Douglas out to collect another train from the same station Donald went to last night.
Douglas makes his way along the line and sees a tall tower on the cliffside. His driver explains that the tower is called a lighthouse and helps guide ships at sea at night. Then, the lighthouse keeper flags Douglas down. He explains that the lighthouse light is broken. Douglas informs the situation to his twin and The Fat Controller. Now knowing it is not a ghost light, Donald is fitted with a flashing lamp and spends the night as a lighthouse engine, which he finds rather fun.
