Windy Weather is a magazine story.
Plot
Many ships that arrive at the harbour bring in coal from the Mainland for the steam engines to use. One week, however, severe gales make the sea very rough and delay the ships. Diesel begins to boast about how he can still do his work since he does not run on coal.
James is sent to the harbour to pick up coal, but he learns the ship had turned back due to the weather. James begins to worry if the railway will end up grinding to a halt due to no coal, but Diesel just laughs and continues boasting. The Fat Controller decides to rearrange the railway's schedule due to the coal shortage and gives the diesel engines more jobs to do. Diesel is delighted to show the others how important he is.
In the afternoon, when Thomas returns from a run along his branch line, the Fat Controller tells him that Daisy will now take over for him. Daisy is very pleased until she is asked to pull trucks as well. However, the gales continue for several more days and Daisy reluctantly agrees. Diesel soon begins to get fed up with the extra work, but he does not complain for long as the gales stop and the coal ships are able to come to Sodor. Diesel and Daisy are very relieved that they will have help again.
